South Australia’s iconic Murray River Vessel MV Proud Mary is destined to become even prouder as it undergoes a huge makeover. The face lift of the vessel is due to be completed just in time for Christmas celebrations.
This full makeover includes a exterior paint job, re-varnishing paintwork, engine revamp, the list goes on, there will even be shiny new propellers. The interior won’t be forgotten either with the cabins and bathrooms also getting redone.
The Proud Mary gives guests a unique and intimate experience on Australia’s longest and most well known river. The vessel caters for a maximum of 40 passengers and operates 365 days a year. A trip on the Proud Mary includes all meals that can be enjoyed with serene river views, en-suite accommodation and daily nature-based shore excursions.
The journey begins from the Murray Bridge just one hour away from Adelaide in South Australia. Captain Dave Farren, Captain of the iconic cruise vessel for the past nine years and crew member for the past 26 years, has nothing but praise for his idyllic work-place surroundings.
“The river is at its best in over 15 years and after the refurbishment, Proud Mary is also set to look her best ever. I can’t wait to take the controls of my beautiful ‘new’ lady.”
The trip on the Proud Mary not only provides a time to relax and indulge in culinary delights but provides a unique opportunity to get back to nature without having to camp.
The surrounding area known as the Murray Darling system supports 250 species of native birds, most of which are easily spotted from the deck of the ship.
