TripAdvisor have unveiled their top travel destinations for 2015 and some surprising locations have made the cut.
TripAdviosr have once again thrown our sense of wanderlust into overdrive and released a list of the world’s hottest travel destinations
First up is the Australian list, which ranks the destinations in your own backyard that are worth a visit.
The list is based on millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers. The winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews as well as ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk says Brisbane’s youthful energy and vibrancy has led it to be named as one of Australia’s top destinations amongst travellers.
“We have a lot to be proud of; Brisbane truly is one of the few cities in the world that has everything,” Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said. “We have a youthful and contagious personality that embraces visitors with our vibrant, relaxed urban outdoor lifestyle.
“We have a thriving cultural and events scene with exclusive shows, major sporting events and important international exhibits. We have amazing natural attributes, diverse shopping, a thriving culinary scene, vibrant nightlife, unique precincts and unexpected surprises around every corner.
“Brisbane is also constantly evolving with exciting new hotels, venues and experiences that make a visit to our city truly memorable.
“We are also one of the most welcoming cities in the world, known for our hospitality and our friendly locals who are ready to offer visitors a warm welcome.”
Not everybody is happy with the list, however. Cessnock’s stunning inclusion ahead of the Gold Coast led Gold Coast Tourism chief executive Martin Winter to tell the Daily Telegraph that the list does not reflect the true attraction of the glitzy coast.
“Those who respond to TripAdvisor surveys might not be representative of the millions of tourists that every year come to the Gold Coast,” he said. “When you offer such a broad range of experiences it will always be difficult to satisfy everyone’s expectations all the time.”
TripAdvisor has also unveiled the world’s 25 top rated destinations, with Marrakech taking the top spot for the first time. Half of the top 10 cities are located in Europe and for the second consecutive year, New York, the highest rated US destination, failed to make the top 10 (our highest entry came in at 25).
