Heading to Caloundra for the summer holidays? Check out our top five coolest things to do while you’re there!
1. The Rollerdrome
The Caloundra Rollerdrome will be converted to an ice skating rink for Rollerdrome on Ice from December 14 to January 26. Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Coast Destination Limited, Simon Ambrose, said the opportunity to try ice skating in air-conditioned comfort offered everyone in the family a break from the summer heat and beach activities.
“The diversity of activities to enjoy is only limited by your imagination on the Sunshine Coast. There are not too many places where you can enjoy a perfect sandy beach and be on an ice rink the same day,” says Ambrose.
2. Kings Beach water fountain
With time-delayed spurts of water, fun rockpools and an oceanfront saltwater swimming pool, Kings Beach is kid-heaven. A gentle beach break with protected swimming areas, the kids can hop across the road to the elaborate playground, jump through the fountain, then race back to the golden sands of the beach.
3. Ice cream treat
Milano Gelataria is another cool treat for Caloundra visitors with award-winning gelati and ice cream. Secret family recipes using the freshest of local ingredients ensure Milano Gelataria is always one of the favourites with the judges at the Brisbane agricultural show.
4. Caloundra Coastal Walk
Stretching 25 kilometres along picturesque coastline, the path is a continuous link from Golden Beach in the south that follows along the Pumicestone Passage, passing Bulcock Beach and Kings Beach before curving around Caloundra Headland and following the long beaches of Kawana all the way to Mooloolaba. Keep eyes peeled for historic sites like Military Jetty, which was used for military operations in World War II, and the heritage-listed Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion, which was constructed in 1937! And don’t forget to check out the SS Dicky wreck that ran aground on Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone… the kids will love to hear ghost stories about that one!
5. Moffat Beach
One of the Sunshine Coast’s best surf breaks, Moffat Beach great for beginners and experts alike. With a vibrant strip of alfresco cafes and boutique stores, you can go from the surf to the shops in a heartbeat. Watch surfers along the right-handed break out at sea while the kids play on the extravagant ship playground, or head off on a walk along the coastal track that leads from Moffat right around to Kings and Bulcock Beaches.
