Brave the beach
Australia is renowned for our beautiful beaches so be naturally Aussie and head to the beach this Australia Day to enjoy sand, surf and a few too many sausages! If you’re not up to braving the crowds, there is always the local surf clubs, where you can enjoy a drink, a yarn and some fish and chips while embracing what the Sunshine or Gold Coast has to offer… at a distance.
Catch up on the cricket
Whether you’re watching it on TV or playing it in your backyard, get involved in the national sport and embrace the spirit of cricket. Australia will verse England in the Carlton Mid ODI Series at Adelaide Oval, so if your batting is not quite up to standards head to your local pub and watch the pro’s battle it out.
Be patriotic with a picnic
If the beach and cricket are not your scene, head to your local park and enjoy a picnic in Brisbane with friends and family this Australia Day.
Experience some local entertainment
Australians know how to party, so head down to Southbank for the Australia Day Festival – the parklands will come alive with music, interactive art installations, Young Designer Market and a spectacular fireworks display. Say ‘thankyou’ to Australia with the traditional flag-raising ceremony which will conclude with the thunderous RAAF flypast and twenty-one gun salute – an event not to be missed!
Host your own house party
If you are not feeling like leaving the comfort of your own home, bring the party to you! Australia Day is about spending quality time with friends and family, so ‘throw some snags on the barbie’, blow up an inflatable pool and toast a drink to our great homeland.
Happy Australia Day!
