If you’re planning to go on a family holiday or just a weekend away with the kids, North Stradbroke Island is the perfect destination.

North Straddie is 45 minutes from Brisbane and is the second largest sand island in the world. It features three small towns, pristine beaches, lakes, wetlands and beautiful bushland and there are heaps of fun family activities to do there!

Naomi Henny, General Manager of Allure Stradbroke Resort, has given us her list of the best family activities to do while you’re on holiday at North Straddie.

Whale Watching

Straddie, as it is affectionately known, is one of the best land based whale watching destinations in the world. We see 80 per cent of the Humpback migration from land. The best locations to see them are:

Point Lookout

Anywhere you can see the ocean at Point Lookout is great, however I would recommend the Headland over looking Frenchmans Bay (known as the whale trail).

North Gorge Walk

A great place to spot them is whilst walking along the iconic North Gorge Walk, which takes you the second most eastern point of Australia, giving you unrestricted views of the majestic giants as they pass close by to the headlands.

Cylinder Beach

Cylinder Beach is a beautiful lagoon style beach that is patrolled daily, so it’s a great spot to take the kids.

Brown Lake

Brown Lake has an amazing bronze colour due to the Tea Tree trees in the water; it has a BBQ area and children’s playground.

Deadmans beach

Doesn’t sound the greatest, but it’s beautiful with natural rock pools and a large sand dune. If you climb up the sand dune it will give you 180 degree views of Point Lookout.

Paid activities

North Straddie offers a wide range of activities, tours and paid experiences for children and adults. There are 4WD beach tours, paddle boarding, sand boarding and surf lessons, kayaking and snorkelling tours and we have a historic museum to explore.

If you are looking to go on a family holiday soon, Allure Stradbroke Resort is the perfect little hideaway. It’s located at Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island, offering relaxing yet luxurious accommodation and it’s only 50 metres from the beach. It’s also set in native bushland surrounded by local wildlife. Basically, you’ll go to sleep to the sound of rolling waves and wake up to laughing kookaburras. Allure will definitely leave you enchanted!

What’s even better is Allure has a special offer on at the moment, on all accommodation — stay 3 nights and only pay for 2 nights! (This offer is valid for stays until 31 August, 2015; terms and conditions apply.)
