For the ultimate weekend away jam-packed with melon-themed ridiculousness that just has to be seen to be believed, head to Chinchilla for their biennial Melon Festival!
Skiing down a 10 metre-long tarp with watermelons as shoes is just one of the many crazy events that Chinchilla is famous for, and would you really expect anything less from the ‘Melon Capital’ of Australia?
Spanning over four chock-a-block days, the event — which draws thousands from all over the country — has activities for all ages and walks of life to enjoy with markets, a street parade, arts and crafts, a poets’ breakfast, free concerts and a pretty serious number of melons to feast on.
For the adventurous types, take part in the melon skiing, melon iron man, melon bungee, melon bullseye, pip spitting competition and the melon tossing. Fall off your chair laughing while contestants attempt to split open 50 watermelons with their own heads in under 60 seconds!
This sensational event is truly bucket-list worthy and only held every two years, so pack your oldest, daggiest clothes and prepare to get a little sticky at this year’s Melon Festival!
Some of the other excitement to prepare for includes:
- Melon Dash for Cash
- Melon Ball Games
- Chariot Race
- Art & Craft Competition
- The FREE Family Concert
Does that sound like your kind of madness? Refer to the Event Guide for further info.
