VetShopAustralia will host its fifth Surfing Dog Spectacular on the Sunshine Coast this weekend, as part of the Noosa Festival of Surfing.

Held at First Point in Noosa on Sunday 6 March, the event will see elite surfing dogs of various breeds take to the surf and perform incredible manoeuvres, as they compete for the Best Wave trophy.

Come on now, guys. Surely dogs can’t surf?

Oh, OK. Yes, they can.

This year’s event will be headlined by Chris De Aboitiz — a former world tandem surfing champion and professional dog trainer — who will also be bringing his own surfing pups to the comp.

The dog trainer has four rescue dogs (all of which surf) and hopes to educate the public about supporting rescue dogs. No doubt you’ll see his pups tearing up some waves at the event!

Chris will also be running workshops at The Spit in Noosa before the event (Saturday 5 March) to show owners how to confidently put their dogs on a surf board.

The workshops, called ‘SUP with your PUP’, are also a great way of showing people how they can get fit, while strengthening their bond with their dog.

The VetShopAustralia Surfing Dog Spectacular will be held on Sunday 6 March, with the workshops held on the Saturday before-hand. For more information visit www.vetshopaustralia.com.au.
