Buddy is a six-year-old Blue Heeler with a zest for life and a love of adventure. Tragically, he also has a terminal cancer of the lymph nodes, but he’s not letting that get in the way of his good times.
When Emily Mochan received the devastating news that her best friend had been diagnosed with Severe Lymphoma, she decided to make sure the final weeks of his life were as happy as they could possibly be.
The pair have been together for four years, since Emily adopted Buddy from a shelter when he was about two years old.
To make the most of the time they have left together, Emily put together a bucket list, consisting of 27 things she thought Buddy would want to experience one last time — or, in some cases, for the first time!
When news travelled to the Queensland Police that one of the items on Buddy’s bucket list was to sit in a police car, the Dutton Park Police and the Dog Squad jumped at the chance to help Buddy out.
Buddy was kitted up in a police dog harness and jumped straight on the front seat of the police car, where he looked right at home.
He then joined Recruit Dog Chopper and Police Puppy Bendix in the rear of the car, just like a real Police Dog.
Clearly impressed with how quickly Buddy took to his new role, Dog Squad Sergeant Ash Purvey presented Buddy and Emily with some gifts and a certificate making them an honorary Police Dog and Handler.
He certainly looks the part!
