Self-proclaimed “role model” Kim Kardashian has defended her controversial Paper Magazine shoot as a “confidence booster” after childbirth.

Kim K opened up about the racy shoot on last night’s episode of The Project. She says it was about more just “breaking the internet” — it was about getting her groove back after giving birth to her first child, North West.

“I looked back at a clip of Keeping Up with the Kardashians last season and I was really heavily pregnant, I was about eight months pregnant, and I looked at my sister and said, ‘you guys, when I feel like I have my body back, I’m doing a nude shoot’.

“For me, when I got the opportunity to work with the photographer Jean-Paul Goude, I was so honoured and excited to work with him and for me that was something I knew I wanted to do to make myself feel confident.”

When asked what she would say to critics who felt she was representing motherhood in a negative light, Kim didn’t hesitate to reply from her viewpoint as a “role model”.

“To each his own, as a role model I’m not saying anyone else should do that.

“I looked at it as an art project for me, this was going to make me feel confident and feel good and it taught me to do what you want to do.

“Everyone should do what they’re comfortable with. I’m never one to preach but I felt really positive and really good about myself.

“I loved the photos, I did it for me.”

Kim said she couldn’t resist the chance to work with Goude, a renowned French photographer.

“When I did the shoot I was just so excited to work with this photographer. My favourite image ever is this one of Naomi Campbell where she’s naked, upside down, with her long ponytail holding her up.

“I’m glad that I can now eat a little bit because I was trying to really not eat so much that week.”

Kim said her back “hurt for about a week” after the shoot, because Goude “has an art of posing you and it’s definitely not comfortable”.
