The newest restaurant in Petrie Terrace aims to sweep diners away to the cobbled streets of Tuscany.

The newest venture from the NKB Group seats up to 100 diners at The Barracks, dishing up rustic Italian meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The venue’s exposed brick structure points towards the stripped-back flavours on offer. The former French Twist site has been given an idyllic Tuscan makeover, complete with a courtyard and overarching mural of the Italian countryside.

NKB head chef Chris Sell has ensured that the lunch and dinner menu takes in Italy’s finest flavours. You can expect tables to disappear under plates of veal scaloppini, tender Osso Bucco, traditional pizzas, and rigatoni topped in slow-braised pork cheek, fennel, chili and tomato.

Dessert is a must, with dinners and lunches topped off with tiramisu and traditional gelato.

You’ll also find an extensive wine list proffering drops from across Italy, including the top shelf ‘Italian Collector’ wines. If that’s a little rich for your tastes, you can always complement your meal with a selection of cocktails, beers and ciders.

If you’re on your way to a movie at the nearby Palace Cinemas, you can stop in briefly for an Aperol Spritz and antipasti plate.

For the early birds, the kitchen will open from 7am with specialty brewed coffee, Italian pastries, and all-out Italian breakfasts, including the Nativo Breakfast Board with parma ham, dried tomatoes, basil pesto, smashed avocado, sourdough and marinated eggplant, or the Muesli Fatto in Casa, a housemade granola topped in honey, dried figs and semifreddo.

Nativo Kitchen & Wine Bar (61 Petrie Terrace, Paddington) is open daily from 7am ’til late.
