Jo-Jo’s restaurant, the iconic Queen Street Mall destination owned by Stefan Ackerie, will serve up its last meals in the Brisbane CBD next month.

Stefan’s restaurant, which pre-dates the Queen Street Mall itself, has been in its current location since 1980.

In that time, the restaurant has become a particularly popular choice with families and large groups because of its central location and vast, food court-like array of dining options.

But, after 37 years, it’s time for a change. On March 5, the distinctive rainbow-themed entrance to Jo-Jo’s on the mall will close for the final time.

It’s not really goodbye, though.

On May 31, Jo-Jo’s will re-open at Stefan’s headquarters on Melbourne Street in West End, as part of the famed hairdresser’s self-styled lifestyle hub.

“The new Jo-Jo’s restaurant on Melbourne Street will be a game changer,” Stefan told Brisbane Times, adding that the new location will boast “an exciting, modern twist”.

Stefan has since taken to Facebook to thank customers for their support.

“I am so overwhelmed with the love and support we have received since announcing the closing of Jo-Jo’s,” he wrote.

“The phones and bookings have not stopped with people wanting to experience their last meal at Jo-Jo’s in the Queen Street Mall.

“With this ending comes an amazing new beginning… we are so excited to re-open Jo-Jo’s on Melbourne Street, West End.”
