Gluten-free brownie joint I Heart Brownies is expanding from Fortitude Valley to the CBD.

The second I Heart Brownies shop will open out front of the Wintergarden in Queen Street in August.

Owner Lulu Purnell says the expansion comes after an influx in deliveries to the city.

“We were run off our feet with deliveries into the city and our stall at the city markets has also very popular, so the demand was definitely there,” she says.

“We’re so excited to be expanding.”

Lulu says spending years developing her brownie recipes has definitely paid off.

“Our brownie recipes aren’t something you can find on the internet, they’re unique and something you can’t just recreate,” she says.

“They’re all gluten free, but you can’t even notice. We use only quality products and ingredients like the Belgium black cocoa, couverture chocolate, free-range eggs, Queensland cane sugar, Australian butter and gluten-free flour and I think that definitely shows through.

“We don’t skimp on the ingredients, either.”

The shop is more like a small kiosk and will have a similar menu to I Heart Brownies in the Valley, but with a little bit extra.

Lulu says it will offer flavoured milkshakes and 12 flavours of brownie, as well as American drip filter coffee.

“We’ll have our classic brownies like the Jaffa, double choc, original choc, choc mint and cherry, then our premium flavours like salted caramel, Nutella and Turkish delight – all in our heart shape trademark of course,” she says.

“We’ll have American drip filter coffee too, which is a little bit different. It’s coffee that you would typically find in an American diner.”

I Heart Brownies in the CBD will also be hooked up to an ordering app called Boppl, so city workers can order brownies from their desks.

“It’s perfect for your morning tea or that 3pm afternoon snack,” Lulu says.

I Heart Brownies is set to open by the second or third week of August, out front of the Wintergarden in Queen Street. Until then you can get your brownie fix at I Heart Brownies’ Fortitude Valley store in Bakery Lane at 694 Ann Street.
