Popular Mexican cantina Chingon is coming to Eagle Lane.

Chingon (the word means “badass”) will open next to US-themed bar Brooklyn Standard in late July.

The 80-seat street food restaurant will be based on the Belleau brothers’ successful Melbourne cantina, and will feature the same recipes, but it won’t actually be owned by them — they’ve franchised out the name to Brooklyn Standard owners Adam Barton and Emmanuel Sakellarakis.

This is just the next step in Barton and Sakellarakis’ plan to eventually open a whole laneway’s worth of themed eateries in Eagle Lane, with plans for a Cuban joint on the agenda down the track.

Chingon, which will serve up five types of soft tortilla tacos, three types of salsa, and fire-roasted corn on the cob, will be the latest in a long line of Mexican eateries to open in Brisbane, following the launch of The Ole Group’s Mucho Mexicano in South Bank earlier this month.
