Lola Coffee has opened its doors at Trafalgar Lane, joining Ribs and Burgers and Ristorante La Famiglia in the urban laneway below Woolloongabba’s newest mixed-use development.
Lola owners Corinne and Brett Chilcott say they’re looking forward to Trafalgar Lane residents and Woolloongabba locals making a habit of picking up their morning espresso and a tasty treat at their boutique café.
Corinne — a coffee roaster by trade, Australian Barista Champion, and finalist in the World Barista Championships — says Lola Coffee is reminiscent of the traditional espresso bars you’d find in Italy.
“We are working closely with Sydney based coffee roaster Coffee Alchemy, serving their delicious, full bodied blends prepared in our Victoria Arduino ‘Black Eagle’ espresso machine,” she says.
“Lola’s is named after my loving aunt, who was as strong as we intend our coffee to be, and we are honouring her memory by encapsulating her generous and humble nature in our approach.
“We will also be serving up home made sweets made by yours truly, with lots of special treats created with decadent, artisan chocolate from chocolate factory Zokoko, which is renowned for roasting the finest cacao beans from around the world.
“We are excited to be a part of a vibrant retail precinct in the heart of Woolloongabba, with a captive audience living above and around our espresso bar, not to mention the thousands of sporting fans passing through on their way to and from the Gabba.”
More than 200 people lined up to celebrate the opening of Ribs and Burgers, while Ristorante La Famiglia had a full house on opening night.
Pellicano Queensland development manager Michael Kent says residents of Trafalgar Lane will have access to a smorgasbord of dining options.
“The laneway has been designed to be a dynamic activated space for residents, workers and locals to recreate,” he says.
“There is already a great mix of dining options to cater for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we have only a couple of tenancies remaining. We are really conscious of getting the right fit that will complement the existing retail offering. In particular, we are seeing an experienced and quality bar and restaurant operator for a prime laneway tenancy.”
The urban laneway connects Stanley and Trafalgar Streets opposite the Gabba stadium at the base of the residential building with 147 apartments sitting atop the retail strip. One, two and three bedroom luxury residential apartments are now available to rent at Trafalgar Lane from $350 a week.
