Australia’s premier sake aficionado Rey Takahashi is returning to Bird’s Nest this weekend to tickle the taste buds of Brisbane’s sake lovers with four exclusive tasting workshops.
Following on from the success of their last sold out event, Bird’s Nest in South Brisbane is inviting Brisbane foodies to participate in one of their exclusive Sake To Me Masterclasses, this Saturday 28 May and Sunday 29 May.
During the two hour classes, sake guru Rey Takahashi will guide foodies through an exquisite selection of boutique Japanese spirits, accompanied by delicious nibbles from the Bird’s Nest kitchen.
Drawing on his Japanese roots, Australian born Rey is the son of restaurateur turned business man Saka Takahashi – the brains behind the wildly successful Sakenet Australia.
During his time in China, Rey studied a broad range of interests including Kung Fu and Capoeira, but it was his passion for sake that led him to pursue a career as a Kura-Bito (sake maker).
Rey honed his skills for six months at Hiokizakura before returning to Australian shores to share his new found knowledge. He now travels around the country educating people on sake – the spirit that has become his life’s work.
The classes’ sake tasting menu will feature Chikusen Junmaiginjo Awa-yamadanishiki, Tamagawa Muroka Nama Gensyu, Okuharima Junnmai Yamahai 80, Komagura 20 Years, Hiokizakura Junmai-cloudy and Umetsu Nokyou Plum wine.
Sake To Me Masterclasses are $59 per person and will be held on Saturday 28 May and Sunday 29 May, with 2 different sessions each day at 12pm and 2:30pm. The 2:30pm session on Sunday is already sold out. There are limited spaces, so book your place now by calling 3844 4306.
