New Farm dining stalwart Anise has announced a change in direction, reinventing itself as “Brisbane’s only dedicated wine bar”.

A New Farm stalwart since 2000, Anise will unveil its new look this Saturday 14 May.

Of course, you’ve probably always thought of Anise as a wine bar, but the venue will reportedly be “going back to its roots” with an even stronger wine focus and considerably less emphasis on degustation style dining.

The reinvention will see Anise offer up a wine-friendly food menu within their atmospheric, yet cosy, setting. The food offering will consist mainly of food boards which can also be matched with wine flights (tastings of multiple wines).

Guests can expect to see a minor fitout update, with the installation of a new high bench overlooking bustling Brunswick Street, as well as the introduction of a boutique cocktail menu which is currently in development.

“We’re evolving Anise and following the market with a more casual, cool space to enjoy wine and smaller fine foods,” owner Thames Delaforce says.

“Our focus on service and a good experience won’t change. There will be some minor cosmetic changes to the venue with the furniture but the tunes will still be played on vinyl.”

Thames says the venue’s commitment to flavour, variety, quality and guest experience in both wine and food will remain high.

Anise Wine Room (697 Brunswick Street, New Farm) will trade from 2pm to 10pm, Wednesday to Sunday, with a no bookings policy.
