You can eat an ice cream sandwich without cheating on your diet this Saturday, when My Plate Clean Treats pops up in Newstead.

My Plate Clean Treats is a Brisbane-based business specialising in handmade clean treats, with vegan, gluten-free, refined sugar-free, dairy-free, paleo, nut-free and soy-free options available to be picked up from their location at Wandering Cooks in Fish Lane, South Brisbane.

This Saturday, they’ll be setting up their pop-up ice cream sandwich store for one day only at Nodo Donuts Café in Newstead. The menu will include:

  • PB choc chunk — Peanut butter cup chunked ice cream, chocolate chip cookies with choc sauce and peanuts
  • Espresso brownie — Baked brownie sandwiched with fresh espresso ice cream half dipped in raw chocolate sauce
  • Dulce-laced caramel cookies with vanilla coconut ice cream
  • Strawberries Sundae — Chocolate chip cookie, strawberry-laced ice cream and strawberry jam with fresh strawberries
  • Mint chocolate ice cream pop
  • Ferrero ice cream pop

My Plate Clean Treats

“Our focus is on using organic, local and Australian produce wherever possible,” says chef Paris Strauss.

“Our ice cream treats are 95 per cent organic, all gluten-free, refined sugar-free, soy-free and all vegan except for the espresso brownie, which has organic eggs in the brownie.

“We love being able to create desserts for people with intolerances or people that just love to try and eat as natural as possible. Everything we use is of the highest quality possible, mostly plant-based and 100 per cent natural.

“We use sweeteners such as organic dried dates, organic GMO-free brown rice malt syrup, organic coconut sugar and organic maple syrup. So with every bite of our delicious products, you are also gaining nourishment and nutrition.”

It’s a guilty pleasure, minus the guilt!

Incidentally, Nodo Donuts Café is well worth a visit in its own right — their doughnuts are baked fresh daily using local ingredients, never fried, 100 per cent gluten-free, and available for people with various dietary requirements. (They are also, and we say this with some doghnut-eating experience under our belts, absolutely delicious.)

The My Plate Clean Treats Ice Cream Sandwich Pop-Up will be held at Nodo Donuts Café (1 Ella Street, Newstead) this Saturday 12 March from 10am-2pm.
