The success of Billy Kart Kitchen in Annerley has prompted celebrity chef Ben O’Donoghue to expand his venture to a more central location as well.
The new Billykart Kitchen at West End is not just a restaurant, but has expanded to incorporate a bottleshop and deli called Billykart Provisions, stocking Billykart products.
The West End restaurant has added a few more bites to the Annerley menu, and is open for dinner every night as well.
We opted for the Billykart cheeseburger with fries that which sounded like a highly satisfying dish.
The thick meat patty on the burger was supremely tasty, as was the melted cheese. An abundance of pickle added a nice zing to each mouthful.
The side of truffle fries had a lovely, earthy taste which made them even more moreish that your regular old salted chip.
It was a sweltering day when we were here, and to be honest the aircon wasn’t terribly effective inside. To cool down, we opted for a smashed fruit fizz topped with soda water which was refreshing on a hot day.
The fizz mashed up ginger, pear and lime. Each of these fruits lent subtle flavours to the bubbly drink.
Other lunch mains include a raw salad of kale, broccoli, sprouts, dates, avocado and toasted seeds with an optional hot smoked salmon. Or try the house cured ocean trout with roasted beets, dill, kefir and sour cream.
Early risers can make the most of the breakfast menu, which is particularly creative.
Options include asparagus and zucchini flower frittata with kefir sour cream, or a spanner crab and scallop congee with pickled ginger and crispy shallots.
An impressive range of good old waffles and pancakes can be served up as well.
The modern interior features some sleek Scandi-design furniture that contrasts nicely against some stained glass windows and a touch of industrial steel on the walls.
The new Billykart Kitchen can be found at 2 Edmondstone Street, West End, and is open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week, and for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday.
