Morning After, a new café offering clientele a place to sit back and ease into the day with a hearty meal, is fast becoming one of West End’s most popular food destinations.

Located at West End on Vulture Street, the Morning After Café offers delicious food and friendly service in a relaxed and comfortable setting – the perfect place if you’ve got a nasty hangover.

The café is owned and operated by mother and son team Soula and Yianni Passaris, who have a strong passion for food. The name ‘Morning After’ takes inspiration from the morning after the night before (of course).

Yianni says the idea sprung from a visit to Melbourne and Sydney, where he says café culture is on a different level.

“The inspiration was to bring a new and fresh environment café for people to feel clean and fresh,” he says.

“I was born around food and I think food, wine and coffee bring people and good times together.

“I envisioned the cafe to be somewhere cool to come, where the atmosphere is as good as the food and the staff are having fun with the customers.”

Yianni says the concept has caught on quicker than he expected.

“Brisbane people have understood my concept which I am feeling good about,” he says.

“The café has a strong energy about it which I worked very hard to produce. I believe 70 per cent of your business is atmosphere, then food and drinks.”

The café serves up all-day breakfast and lunch, and the menu — inspired by flavours from around the world — is said to be 60 per cent healthy and 40 per cent naughty.

Yianni says there is one meal on the menu, though, that’s proven to be very popular for a hangover.

“I think the number one meal (for a hangover) is the carbonara for breakfast! People are loving pasta for breakfast. They’re also loving to kick start their morning with one of our green smoothies.

“Brisbane people love a big breakfast but we are all learning that quality in produce comes before quantity and you can expect freshness in our food to make you feel better, rather than walking out full and bloated.”

Some of the other breakfast offerings on the menu include the fresh sand crab omelette, the buttermilk and ricotta hotcakes, the sweet corn pakora and the granola which has been supplied by local bloggers and nutritionists The Unrefined.

From 11.30am, lunch is served and the menu will have you drooling! Try the salt and pepper squid with Asian slaw; slow roasted lamb shoulder salad with charred radicchio; or the classic cheeseburger with smoked bacon and a side of chips. Yum!

And what better way to cure a hangover then a hot cup of coffee? Lucky for you, the Passaris family are very serious about their coffee, providing not only espresso through their large Synesso Hydra machine (from Seattle, USA), but also coffee of the filtered variety, which provides an interesting theatrical experience.

Future plans for the Morning After Cafe include cooking classes, nutritional workshops, pop up events and Sunday sessions with a live DJ.
