Take a look inside Honor Food Co, New Farm’s newest hot spot.
Honor Food Co. in New Farm has been open for a few months now, but has recently undergone a revamp adding a modern courtyard dining area to the cute-as-a-button shopfront.
Owner Erin McMahon sources produce from local providers, and can be seen at the Saturday New Farm markets gathering fresh vegetables which inspire new recipe ideas.
“We’re all about celebrating simple food, fresh,” she said.
Breakfast items include the Goldilocks Porridge, with almonds and chia and served with either milk or cream. The house made banana bread has a similar decadent touch, with whipped coconut and orange on the side.
For lunch, the harissa chicken and bacon burger is a spicy treat, and comes with apple slaw and rocket fuel mayo. A grass fed eye fillet sandwich with caramelised onion and house made aioli also makes for a satisfying winter warmer meal.
With the new courtyard, the café looks set to expand its menu offerings into the evenings as well.
The seasonal menu at Honor changes monthly, but one constant is the kitchen’s use of free range meat and eggs. Honor also makes as much as possible in house, including its fruit loaf and grain bread. A recent cake special of chocolate cake with salted caramel filling was as rich and amazing as it sounded.
To accompany your slice of cake, Honour serves up Venezziano coffee with almond, soy and Zymil milk available. While the new courtyard offers a relaxed dine-in option, all meals can also be packaged-up for an impromptu picnic in the nearby New Farm Park.
Honor even offers specific picnic parcels for the park, served in a three-tiered tray with a big bow tied on top.
The first tier consists of an antipasto platter, followed by fresh sandwiches and topped with house made sweet treats. This picnic option can be delivered to the park, or picked up from the café, with prices starting at $18 per person.
Honor is open from 6am – 3pm and can be found on the corner of Brunswick and Sydney Streets in New Farm.
