Paleo comes to Brisbane with the opening of Asana Capri by Pete Evans, a collaboration with Fraser Hospitality to bring Brisbane a restaurant serving healthy food in a fine dining setting.
Evans, the controversial and instantly recognisable chef from My Kitchen Rules, has partnered up with Capri Brisbane to revamp and reimagine their hotel restaurant and the result is spectacular.
The name itself is intrinsically linked to the world of yoga — loosely translated, Asana means to balance the mind and body. This ethos has been woven through the entire experience from the food to the decor and the result is blissful. Evans is no stranger to travelling and understands how hard it can be to find healthy food that also packs a flavour punch.
Together with Brisbane chef Josh Harris, Evans has created and concocted a menu designed to reflect society’s desire to eat clean, eat lean and eat light.
What isn’t light is the flavour, as the launch featured mini versions of all the main menu items and everything was palate-tinglingly good.
Dishes included Middle Eastern-spiced kangaroo skewers with pomegranates, mint and sesame; devilled eggs with smoked trout, salmon roe, nam jim dressing and free range eggs; raw zucchini lasagne with cashew cheese, olives and heirloom tomatoes; grass fed Manning Valley Rib-eye with bone marrow chimmichurri and roasted barramundi, sweet potato puree, lime and coconut sauce.
The sweets selection is small but oh so delectable. Choose from chococadomousse with fresh berries, coconut panna cotta, seasonal fruits, ginger kombucha jelly or a paleo tiramisu.
Evans won’t be in the kitchen whipping up the dishes on a day-to-day basis. Instead that responsibility sits on the shoulders of head chef Harris, and he brings with him a wealth of experience from his previous home at Era Bistro.
Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner plus an ambient bar space which is open from 3pm daily, Asana is an excellent choice for the inner city folk who are looking for something new and exciting in the CBD and for those diners who enjoy a meal built around fresh produce and innovative flavours. For the coffee-lovers, there is a café space next to the main dining area that is open serving brews by The Sensory Lab (experts from Melbourne) plus some delicious sweet treats and fast paleo snacks to grab as you run to work.
Asana Capri by Pete Evans is open daily and is located at 80 Albert Street, Brisbane CBD. Click through the gallery above to see all our pics from the launch!
