A welcome addition to the South Bank scene is The Manhattan Line, an ultra relaxed, NYC-inspired bar that serves up American-style street food and a huge selection of whiskeys, beers and cocktails.

Their first night of trade was New Year’s Eve and the place has been going gangbusters ever since.

Serving up all manner of street food, this NYC-inspired whiskey bar is the place to go for a relaxed drink, has a menu perfect for satisfying a serious hunger and offers an excellent vantage point for people-watching on a lazy afternoon.

Located on Little Stanley Street, at the QCA end of South Bank, The Manhattan Line specialises in whiskey and pimped-out hot dogs (as one of the staff likes to to call them) and will transport your tastebuds to the Big Apple.

Co-owned by Chris Denman and Stevie Waits, the premise of the establishment is simple – offer delicious street food, a quality selection of whiskeys and a chilled-out vibe – and they’ve nailed it on all three counts.

Hankering for a classic New York hot dog? They’re got you covered as on the menu is The NYC, comprising of a beef frank, caramelised onions, Manhattan ketchup, yellow mustard and cheddar cheese. Or perhaps you’d like to sink your teeth into a Brooklyn Chilli Dog? A delicious combination of pork frank, spicy beef chilli, manhattan ketchup, yellow mustard, cheddar cheese and dill pickle. The Chicago style hotdog has a slightly different twist, with an all-beef frank, celery salt, caramelised onions, red peppers, American green relish and pickle spear.

Sides include shoestring fries, sweet potato chips or beer-battered onion rings and come served in stainless steel mini chip baskets with a selection of authentic sauces. Look out for the Mozzarella Sticks, a staff favourite and the Manhattan Original Fried Wings which have just been voted in the Top Ten wings in Brisbane.

Quench your thirst after all the salty goodness with a selection of American whiskies, scotches, rums, beers and cocktails.

The decor is a nod to New York and the smoky dive bars that can be found tucked away, unseen by the unsuspecting eye. The walls are covered in graffiti art, the furniture is made from recycled palettes and reclaimed wood and the front of the venue is constructed from corrugated iron and splashed with paint.

Open six days a week, The Manhattan Line is closed Mondays. Pop in from midday – 10.30pm weekdays and stay until midnight on the weekends – this bar is the perfect choice for a stop-in snack, a contemplative drink in the late afternoon or a boisterous evening with a bunch of friends.
