Piefection Gourmet Pies sells a range of mouth-watering gourmet pies, developed and baked by internationally-qualified chef Matt Roman, and the demand for his delicious wares is getting louder and louder. So much so, he’s decided to open a second store at Coorparoo in the next few weeks.
Almost unable to keep up with the demand for his gourmet pies, Matt has taken the leap and is expanding, taking Piefection into a bigger space complete with a commercial kitchen so he can experiment with new pie ideas and have fun with new flavours.
Currently on his menu at his Mt Gravatt store are his legendary staples — Jack Daniels BBQ Pork Rib, Guinness Beef and Mushroom, Lamb Shank and Rosemary and Bundaberg Rum Runner — all served with mushy peas, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy if you so desire. And be warned, these pies will tantalise your tastebuds and demand you eat them immediately (we know this because the bmag team ate them for breakfast as we couldn’t wait for lunchtime). Some other fabulous flavours to look out for include Butter Chicken, Guinness Beef and Mushroom Pie, Triple Prime Beef Pie and the Savoury Mince Cottage Pie.
All these choices and more will be on offer at the new Coorparoo location and Matt is aiming for a soft opening in November with a grand opening launch sometime in December. He takes pride in the fact that he has never advertised and his success has been built on word of mouth. (Once you’ve tried one of his pies, you’ll know why.) He has a line up out the door from about 12.05pm every day and the loyalty from customers is unbelievable. Matt mentioned that he had one customer who came to the store every day for 50 days straight. Now that is a pie fanatic.
All Piefection pies are made fresh daily, using high quality ingredients and sourced locally as much as possible. Everything is made from scratch and all recipes are Matt’s own, utilising his experience of 15 years as a highly-qualified chef at establishments such as Montrachet.
When Coorparoo opens, both stores will be serving pies seven days a week to cater to the demand, and Matt says you can expect the Coorparoo store to be open earlier and closing later to accommodate more pie-loving people.
With specials changing on a weekly basis, there is always a new taste to try! For those staying in Brisbane over the G20 long weekend, Piefection will be open and serving a range of special pies. You’ll be able to choose from such delights as Lasagne, Nachos, Carolina Pulled Pork with Mac n Cheese, Chicken Kieve, Chilli Caramel Pork Belly and Pulled Beef Sirloin. For those with a sweet tooth, Matt is making a batch of Death by Chocolate tarts as well. All are in limited quantities and it’s first in, best fed.
Piefection is currently located at 1373 Logan Rd, Mt Gravatt and the new store can be found at 11 Clarence Street, Coorparoo. The exact date of opening is yet to be confirmed but keep checking the Piefection facebook and website for details.
