The food truck phenomenon has exploded! Every Friday, we take a closer look at one of your favourite trucks. Today, the spotlight falls on Siguenos!
Owner/chef: Rodney and Reanna Anlezark.
Cuisine style: LA-inspired Mexican street food.
Home suburb: Gold Coast.
Time in business: Eight months.
Why food trucks?
Why not? We have travelled the world and experienced amazing street food and the Gold Coast was lacking in this area. We are the first food truck serving on the streets and the customers are receiving it well.
Is running a food truck as much fun as it looks, or is it just bloody hard work?
A little of column A and a little of column B… We work very hard on providing great food and a great experience to our customers; and they return the good vibes! We have the greatest customer base who support us and our business and love spending time with their families and friends at the Siguenos truck.
What were you doing before you got your food truck? What’s your background in food?
Rod has been a chef for 23 years ranging from casual to fine dining; after being a head chef for over 15 years it was time to do his own thing. I (Reanna) have also worked front of house hospitality and customer service for 15 years.
There are food trucks popping up everywhere these days – what sets yours apart?
Our professional approach and respect for the industry we love so much. We serve restaurant quality food on the streets of the Gold Coast.
What are the relationships like between Food Truck operators? Is everybody friendly, or are they out for blood?
There are not many food trucks on the Gold Coast yet, but we have great relationships with some of the Brisbane trucks like The Bun Mobile and That BBQ Joint who we recently worked with side by side at the Brisbane Good Food and Wine Show. We often get questions from others wanting to start a truck and we are always happy to oblige.
What’s the most popular item on your menu?
Our beef and chicken tacos are both big sellers… depends what the weather is like as to which one is the most popular.
What’s your favourite item on the menu?
I love the fish taco and Rod is passionate about the specials, they change daily and he puts a lot of thought and effort into them.
Where do you source your ingredients from? Do you buy local?
We buy as much as we can locally but for obvious reasons we also buy imported Mexican hot sauces, spices and chili’s.
What sort of stuff do you cook at home? Is it anything like what you cook on the truck?
We are never home!
Which suburbs do you usually operate in? Where’s your most popular stop?
We operate all over the Gold Coast! The most popular stops are Surf Fx Southport, Bob Jane Mermaid Beach, Darkside Skateboards Miami, World Carpets Labrador, The Village Markets in Burleigh Heads and The Boardlife Palm Beach.
How do most people find out about your truck?
Why do you think food trucks have become so popular?
Tasty, affordable and a unique experience.
Favourite music to listen to in the truck?
Mariachi El Bronx.
Do you harbour any dreams of opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant?
Never say never.
If your Food Truck was a Transformer, its name would be…
Any words of wisdom for those wanting to run their own food truck?
