Tasty treats are waiting for you at this Fortitude Valley hot spot.

The three little piggys have become four after the new British themed Pig ‘N’ Whistle venue opened on Brunswick Street.

Owned and operated by the Mantle Group, who run the other successful and iconic Pig ‘N’ Whistle venues at Riverside, Queen Street Mall and Indooroopilly, Pig ‘N’ Whistle Brunswick Street is their latest offering and has made it’s home in Fortitude Valley.

Mantle Group director Godfrey Mantle says his team have created a casual, fun and atmospheric venue that pays homage to authentic bars found in England.

“To create the atmosphere our venues are renowned for, we opened up the space next door to create a welcoming courtyard with a street entrance and walkway through the bar upstairs,” Mr Mantle says. “To build on the courtyard, we’ve installed a retractable roof so it’s available for all seasons and included green living areas. We’ve also had beautiful outdoor furniture created by a local craftsman from Noosa, perfect for footpath dining at the front and watching the world go by.

“Downstairs, we’ve built on the open kitchen and wine cellar and have a well-known head chef, Michael Muir on board, who has created a simple, yet authentic British menu utilising our purpose-built central kitchen at East Brisbane, organic farm at Pullenvale and direct relationship with local farmers.”

Muir is no stranger to the Valley or New Farm, as he was the previous Executive Chef at Cloudland and Executive Chef at Watt Restaurant . Prior to joining Pig ‘N’ Whistle Brunswick Street, Muir was the Executive Chef at Zuma, a Contemporary Japanese restaurant located in Istanbul.

Muir said he jumped at the chance to work with Mantle Group and lead the team at Pig ‘N’ Whistle Brunswick Street along with Executive Chef Deniz Coskun.

“Since returning from Istanbul, I’ve been looking for an opportunity that moves away from the stereotypes of fine dining and into a more casual space as I feel that’s where the true direction of Brisbane’s food scene is p-and-w-1at,” Muir says. “I’ve always been passionate about using simple, fresh and good quality, local produce and really let the flavours speak for itself. Not over dressing or over complicating the dishes, but just letting the natural flavours of the produce come through.

“When I met with the team at Mantle Group and toured their organic farm at Pullenvale and purpose-built central kitchen at East Brisbane, which hosts a full time butcher, French pastry chef and saucier, I knew this was the right fit.”

Pig ‘N’ Whistle Brunswick Street has 18 beers on tap and two old-style English pump taps, featuring authentic British ales. The purpose-built bar features eight wines on tap at any time as a unique way to feature many prominent Australian and New Zealand winemakers on rotation. This is also supported by an extensive wine cellar downstairs in the 60 seated restaurant.

Pig ‘N’ Whistle Brunswick Street is located at 446 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley – near the Judith Wright Performing Arts Centre. To book a table or enquire call 3852 6420. The venue is open from 11am until late each day and for breakfast Saturday and Sunday from 7am.
