The delights of High Tea are now available at Carindale with the opening of Passion Tree Velvet.
There’s something delightfully decadent and slightly indulgent about the process of taking High Tea. It’s a ritual that requires a little time and responds with a lot of enjoyment.
Although Passion Tree Velvet is located in the middle of the mall at Westfield Shopping Centre, Carindale, its almost as if the rest of the world doesn’t exist when you are sipping tea and nibbling on fine cakes and pastries.
A blend between an English tea house, a Parisian patisserie and a Belgian chocolatier, Passion Tree Velvet is filled with a rainbow of macarons and a drool-worthy selection of cakes, scones and sandwiches all made fresh every day. There’s also a selection of chocolates and fine array of quality teas Harney & Son’s teas, suppliers of London’s Dorchester Hotel and the Ritz Claridges.
Passion Tree Velvet Project manager Chris Sheldrick says the store brings a European quality patisserie to Brisbane at prices that allow customers to indulge regularly, not just once a year.
“I have experienced High Tea from a variety of places around the world and found the amazing ones to be extremely expensive and the more affordable ones sometimes lacking in quality,” Sheldrick says.
“I came to realise that this is often because high teas are an add-on or a second thought to a café or hotel, something that’s not at the heart of what their business does. We have set out to build an establishment that produces high tea as our core business and this is exactly what we have done.”
With prices ranging from $15.90 for a Devonshire Cream Tea up to $34.95 for the Full Duchess High Tea, there’s plenty of choice for all at Passion Tree Velvet.
Chris says his favourite high tea in Europe has to be The Wolseley on Picadilly Road, London.
“I love to book the small verandas they have inside that overlook the rest of the diners. It has a Victorian professional atmosphere with classic styling but unlike other quiet high tea places, the Wolseley has a busy hustle and bustle which I enjoy in a tea room. They also have brilliant scones.
“The one high tea cake that I can never resist is the scone, which is technically a cake. Many high tea places will have different sandwiches or different cakes, but you can always count on the scone. If the scone is good, it completes the experience for me.”
Chris says his preferred tea blend is Earl Grey as the delicious bergamot citrus acts as a palette cleanser for the next high tea delight to be consumed.
