No time to jet off to Italy this week? Never fear, we’ve found the next best thing right here in Albion.

Not all of us grew up with an Italian Nonna and Nonno to serve up endless dishes of mouth-watering Italian cuisine and scold us for leaving the table before we finished our fifth helpings.

Luckily Brisbane chefs Craig Muller and Nicola Robertiello have taken pity on the Nonna-less and have opened up a restaurant that specializes in Italian style home cooking, preparing dishes full of flavor and zest that wouldn’t be out of place at a pavement cafe on the streets of Rome. Muller and Robertiello have re-branded their Marca restaurant as Fiamme Trattoria, and along with the new name, interior and logo have also unveiled a new menu. The restaurant sits on Sandgate Road in Albion and is a welcome addition to the North side’s flourishing dining scene.

An Italian restaurant is only as good as its pasta and Fiamme Trattoria certainly dishes up an array of dishes for pasta aficionado’s to try and enjoy.  The Ragu Di Coda Di Bue is made up of slowly cooked oxtail ragout removed from the bone and served with strozzapretti pasta, while the Ravioli Di Granchio e Gamberi Al Nero Di Sep has squid ink ravioli filled with fresh crab, prawns and ricotta cooked in a fresh tomato and basil sauce and with the availability of gluten free pasta on the menu nobody has to miss out.

Muller and Robertiello also pride themselves on their authentic Italian pizza’s and serve their creations straight from the wood-fire pizza oven. Their pizza’s feature slowly cooked San Marzano tomato sauce and there are more than 13 pizza options on the menu, with toppings consisting of everything from pork and fennel sausage to fresh chilli, hot sopressa, smoked ham, artichoke,mushrooms and black olives.

But who says that pizza is just a dinner food? Satisfy your sweet tooth and carry the pizza trend through to dessert with Delizia, a Nutella pizza or Ricotta e Pera which is pizza with sweetened ricotta and caramelised pear.
