2014 will see the biggest and best wine tasting series return to Brisbane, in the international tour of the annual Grand Bordeaux.

In this year’s Annual Grand Bordeaux Tasting Series, many of the wines will be served from rare ‘large format’ bottles, instead of the usual 75cl size.

Magnums, jeroboams and methuselahs not only look fantastic and have the fun side-effect of increased sharing capacity but they also allow a wine to develop and evolve more slowly, aging better; a great benefit when tasting elegant, complex Bordeaux wines from older vintages.

Brisbane wine lovers are invited to the United Cellars Grand Bordeaux Masterclass, where exceptional vintages will be explored.

The Masterclass is a rare opportunity to be guided through an amazing selection of wines, comparing styles from the distinctive left and right banks from some of Bordeaux’s most prestigious Chateaux.

The 2000 is racy and sleek with lots of class typical Bordeaux freshness. The 2005 was a fabulous year with a wonderful combination of bright fruit, perfumes and structure. The 2009 is all of 2005 and more,” says James Suckling from Wine Spectator.

French Champagne will be served on arrival followed by matching tasting plates accompanying each of the wine brackets.

Attendees will also have the chance to win a magnum of Bordeaux on the night.

Details for the Masterclass are as follows:

  • 20 May, 6-9pm
  • E’cco Bistro, 100 Boundary Street
  • $250 per person
  • Bookings: 1300 226 835
