Spoilt for choice, Mariosarti Ristorante Italiano in Toowong offers diners a delectable trip and now there’s a stay and dine package!
If I knew the Italian word for ‘eureka’, I would use it to describe my discovery of Mariosarti Ristorante Italiano at Toowong.
On Saturday night the atmospheric, candle-lit restaurant was packed and continued to be so throughout the evening with diners coming and going. The indoor and alfresco dining space was buzzing and we were well placed to enjoy the street atmosphere and the summer night breeze.
Despite the full house, restaurant owner Risko Isic greeted every customer at the door and throughout the night wandered by to chat and check all was well. Our waitress knew all there was to know about the menu, wine list and more and the service was so exceptional it felt like we were the only guests!
The menu is peppered with fine Italian flavours and favourites and we did our best to try the signature dishes and specials amongst them. There’s an extensive wine list and you can buy by the glass or bottle.
An entree of Pane di casa—ciabatta served with Italian olive oil and aged balsamic—and a serve of Esca Frittella Bianco—New Zealand whitebait mixed with Parmesan, eggs and fresh herbs—was tasty…I could have gone home happy then. Thank goodness I didn’t because one of the ‘specials of the day’, the pan seared crispy skin snapper was to die for.
I’m a little partial to ordering fish when dining out given I’ve never cooked it well myself, but this serve of snapper on a green bed was breathtakingly good. My partner tried Mariosarti’s signature crispy skin pork belly and was not disappointed.
I watched (or spied on) guests around us at different stages of dining enjoy the diced tomato garlic, oregano and fresh basil served on crusty ciabatta; antipasti misti; the spaghetti alla marinara with Queensland tiger prawns and squid sautéed in chilli, garlic and a light Napoli sauce (I know, sounds too good to pass up) and another special of the day, the quail on risotto.
The desserts were tempting and the four guests at the table next to ours indulged in and shared the lemon tart served with apricot coulies and boysenberry gelato; the cookies and cream pannacotta (chocolate crumble served with a summer berry coulis) and the soft centred chocolate pudding served with a wild berry compote and vanilla bean gelato. But as I simply had to eat the entire crispy skin snapper serve because it was too good not too, I was forced to share the signature Tiramisu rather than have my own dessert. It was light and creamy and a great finish to the evening.
Next time, I vow to try the pasta and after that, more of the desserts…so many flavours so little time.
