Brisbane food guru Alice Lindley dishes another edition of Tasty Bites with servings of Three Padres and Bocuse d’Or.

Three Padres:

Three Brisbane lads from Vespa Pizza and Downtown Honey co., have opened Woolloongabba’s latest little bar of tricks Padre Bar, a cool little spot on Stanley Street squeezed between two shopfronts. The name ‘Padre’, Spanish for father, signifies the fact that all three men have become fathers in the last year. The Spanish theme continues with Estrella beer on tap, order whatever cocktail you like, or choose something from the book. Bar snacks only at the moment, but plans are in place to extend the menu. Just B’ocuse:

The Brisbane Club’s executive chef Shannon Kellam has been selected to represent Australia at the 2015 Bocuse d’Or. This international competition is a two-day event held in Lyon, France, where chefs from 23 countries compete. To warm up for the big event, Shannon will team up with ex-Bocuse d’Or victor and mentor Serge Vieria to cook an incredible six-course meal at The Regatta Hotel on 19 February. Hosting the event will be The Regatta executive chef Shane Keighley and celebrity chef Miguel Maestre. This is the second time that Shannon will compete in for the prize, his first time being in 2013, so we wish him all the best. Details of the Regatta event in our event guide.

Westside residents rejoice – a new coffee and food spot has opened up in Taringa, inside the historic Hillsdon Road Centre. Abode Café is the kind of place that takes pride in the details – making all their spreads and even speciality teas in house. Owners Bronwyn and Peter Jukes have enlisted the help of family to get the place up and going, including Bronwyn’s mum Rae helping out with baking and her dad David helping with construction.
