8 combinations for creating the perfect burger – from the bun, condiments to the juicy fillings. You’ll be surely returning for seconds!

Bacon, well that’s a given. Lettuce – unnecessary? Cheese – of course, but what sort? We give you the bmag be-all and end-all; eight combinations for the perfect burger.

1. The classic hamburger:

Beef mince patty, Kraft cheese, cucumber, iceberg lettuce, shortcut bacon, baby beetroot, fried egg, pickles, BBQ sauce and hamburger bun.

2. Mexican chicken & salsa burger

Chicken breast fillets, Cajun seasoning, avocado, coriander, lime juice, cherry tomatoes, red onion, jalapenos (optional) and wholemeal bun.

3. For the vegetarians

Vegetable patty, baby spinach, sprouts, avocado, cherry tomatoes, cheddar cheese, sweet chilli sauce and wheat bun.

4. Greek lamb burger

Lamb patty, red onion, feta cheese, black olives, oregano, coriander, cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, Tzatziki, and pita bread or seeded bread roll.

5. The Aussie kangaroo

Kangaroo mince patty, iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, fresh dill, dijonnaise, brown onion, gherkins, and multigrain bun.

6. The fishmonger burger

Snapper fillets, carrot, cucumber, green oak lettuce, lemon pepper seasoning, tartare sauce, natural yoghurt (optional) and wholemeal bun.

7. Mushroom wonder

Sautéed mushrooms, provolone cheese, beef, shortcut bacon, caramelised onions or sauerkraut (optional) sour cream and wholemeal bun.

8. The pizza burger

Beef mince patty, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, cherry tomatoes, red onion, mushrooms (optional), basil, olives and Italian seasoning.

Tips:

The patty meat – For a juicy burger, source patty mince or meat will less than 18% fat content. Ask the butcher to grind the meat freshly for you if possible!

Making the patty – Don’t overwork the meat. Toss the mince lightly with the seasonings, spreading apart the meat until loosely mixed.

Cooking – Use a grill on a high heat. If it’s a gas grill, leave the lid down while cooking and only flip the patties 2-3 times.

Cooking times per side:

  • 2 minutes for rare
  • 3 for medium rare
  • 4 for medium
  • 5 for well-done
