The Strauss Cafe has arrived in Brisbane, writes Alice Lindley
City workers have the next pick of the coffee crop with Strauss Cafe opening up on Elizabeth Street.
The owners, Oliver Strauss, Simon Pyle and Josh Russell, take their coffee very seriously. Needless to say, the fair trade coffee is sourced from Coffee Cup Grocers, and they plan to change the blend over time, keeping you alert through the seasons! The food menu stays on all day, and largely revolves around seasonal produce sourced from community food group Food Connect. Expect offerings such as Bircher muesli, asparagus with poached eggs and prosciutto (anyone who serves their food with lashings of Pepe Saya butter is a friend of mine).
The coffee on offer from the Strauss Cafe changes regularly, and there are many interesting and delicious blends on offer. Amongst the many options is a single origin from Colombia or a filter blend from El Salvador, sourced from Cup Coffee Roasters
We’re looking forward to the end of the year when these guys should be extending their hours and drinks list and expanding into a small bar. The Strauss Cafe has been designed with an intimate setting in mind for patrons, with beautiful timber floors and rustic exposed brick walls all adding to the charming feel of Brisbane’s favorite new coffee place.
The café has a liquor license pending with future plans to open in the evening for after work drinks and share plates.Currently the Strauss Café is open for all-day coffee from Monday through to Friday from 6:30am until the wee hours of 3am.
