Newly opened Italian restaurant L’angolo Bistro is Italian to the core, but its owners have put a new face on the traditional cuisine.
L’angolo Bistrò at Hamilton Harbour is run by Rome-born David Ruggiero and Laura Petricello, with Brisbane-Italian Lisa Del Vecchio and Sardinia-born Marco Mureddu. The restaurateurs have designed a menu that reflects the changing face of Italian food, offering lighter and more health conscious meals to consumers, while still maintaining flavour and heartiness.
The menu, featuring traditional Italian items with a modern twist, is especially catered towards those with food intolerances.
“We have developed a menu with gluten free, vegan, and dairy free options because we want our customers to know no matter what their requirements, they will be able to find something delicious that they can eat at L’angolo Bistrò,” says David Ruggiero.
“Making gluten free options requires a lot of work, and using separate preparation areas, so we think this commitment of offering Italian food items suitable for coeliacs is quite rare and will appeal to many.”
The Mediterranean diet is one of the most popular in the world, but for Italians it’s not a diet, it’s a way of life. This is reflected in the L’angolo Bistro where only fresh and seasonal ingredients are used, with specials chosen daily based on the availability of key ingredients.
“Growing up, our families grew their own ingredients naturally and we would eat whatever was ripe. This is evident in our menu,” says Lisa Petricello.
“Using locally sourced, fresh ingredients means more nutrients remain in the food and also more flavour.”
L’angolo Bistrò is at Hamilton Harbour, Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton and offers lighter options including gluten free, vegan, dairy free, and organic. Phone 3369 7417.
