Occupying a former bakery on Kedron’s Homebush Road, the charming Nana and Da’s café has won the hearts of locals within months of opening.
Every neighbourhood needs a hangout like Nana and Da’s. The cute cottage, run by Kedron resident Jackie Wise, was opened to fill the void of a quality community café.
Jackie, alongside her father, renovated the 1930s weatherboard bakehouse that once delivered fresh loaves of bread by horse and cart to the Kedron community.
Opting for fresh bi-fold windows, polished pine floors and recycled timber walls, the end result of Jackie’s endeavours was a homely, welcoming fit out.
Since its opening in April 2014, Nana and Da’s has lovingly served a seasonal menu to guests six days a week. The produce is sourced twice weekly from local markets for the all-day breakfast and lunch menus.
For breakfast at Nana and Da’s, think fluffy coconut pancakes served with grilled peaches, maple and Maleny yoghurt, or smoked garlic and buttered mushrooms on 12-grain bread with haloumi, avocado on sourdough with hazelnuts and zucchini, or cider chorizo beans with mojo sauce, a poached egg and fresh chilli.
Lunch is just as delicious with the house-smoked salmon, which is accompanied by fennel, beetroot, capers and cherry tomato salad, or the wagyu burgers served with blue cheese aioli and corn on the cob.
Wash one of these divine dishes down with Nana and Da’s speciality Cup coffee, one of the freshly-made juices or an insane milkshake that is blended with real macerated strawberries.
Nana and Da’s is also a family affair, considering the area is home to three schools and many young families. There is plenty of room for prams, boxes of toys and books for the kids, as well as a healthy kids menu that won’t make a mark on your wallet. Your four-legged friends are also welcome with bowls of water available outside.
